British Gas Central Heating Systems are available to anyone, not just British Gas Customers

British Gas has over 50 years experience & are europe's leading central heating installers, you can be confident in the knowledge that all British Gas engineers are trained to the highest standards and are Corgi Registered. Following the first years use of your system an engineer will make a full safety & maintenance inspection to ensure your system is running smoothly, you can then opt for the British Gas Homecare plan which will keep you safe in the knowledge you're covered day & night by British Gas.

British Gas also offer just Boiler installations, whether it's a Combi, Condensing or Conventional boiler a heating advisor can provide you expert advice on what is required.

Types of Central Heating Systems

Conventional System

The majority of heating systems installed work as a conventional, or traditional pumped system. A hot water cylinder is required plus two cold water cistern type tanks usually stored within the loft space. These pumped type systems work with either Condensing or Conventional type boilers and provide a great deal of control over the how the heat is distributed & at what time. The hot water cylinder can also be fitted with an immersion heater to provide a greater level of control over the hot water. Properties that are space restricted usually benefit from a combination system due to the need for a loft space with a conventional type system.

Combination System

A combination central heating system uses a combi boiler and requires no loft space or hot water cylinder as it heats the water on demand. This is a popular choice for smaller properties or flats and can be a lower cost solution initially due to the smaller amount of plumbing required.

Another benefit of a combi system is that you can often run a power shower without the need of an additional pump as it uses mains pressure water.

Tips for Buying Central Heating

  • Get multiple quotes, you could be surprised at the difference.
  • Do consider installing a condensing boiler, they're more expensive initially but are far more efficient and will pay for themselves in the long run
  • Do not try a DIY job, there is strict legislation covering gas & boilers.
  • Condensing boilers help reduce carbon dioxide emissions which will in turn reduce the effect of global warming.
  • Consider the installation of a hot water shower alongside the heating install, this can be a cheap way of getting a new shower, ask for it to be 'thrown in', they can only say no!
